Advanced materials for critical applications
Advanced materials have been a part of Waukesha Bearings designs for many years, in response to growing customer need for enhanced performance and greater cost effectiveness.
Ceramic materials are used in applications where abrasive particles are present. The use of monolithic silicon carbide makes virtually any liquid suitable as a lubricant, including liquefied gases, hydrocarbon condensates and sea water. Ceramics are especially popular in pumps, thanks to their ability to forego the weight, space and expense of an oil lubrication system.

Polymer linings, bonded to steel journal or thrust pads, offer outstanding ability to withstand uncommonly high loads, high temperatures and resistance to fatigue. PEEK based polymers, when used in bearings for both oil and product lubrication in a clean liquid, also excel in thin film operation and provide insulating properties that prevent damage due to electrical discharge.
